Before we start the series of What and How to let us get to know what actually these fractions and decimal are.

Fractions

A fractional number is a numeric quantity that is not a whole number. It is a part of the whole number and is usually represented by two numbers separated by a horizontal line, 1/4 is a fraction. The number above the horizontal line is called the numerator, and the one below the line is called the denominator.

Decimals.

A decimal number is defined as a number whose whole number part and the fractional number part is separated by a decimal point.

Convert Fractions To Decimals

In a fraction, a bar means “divided by”, which means that the numerator gets divided by the denominator. So if we find the equivalent of fraction 1/4, you need to solve: 1 divided by 4.

The answer will be 0.25.

In the example above, you can think of it in terms of money. $1 is the whole, while $0.25 is a quarter. That quarter is equivalent to 1/4 of a dollar. The same example holds true for $0.10. A dime is 1/10 of a dollar. If you divide the dollar by 10, 1/10, you get $0.10.

I hope that has helped.
